EDC Finance Corporation helped Hess Tent Rental obtain an SBA 504 loan to assist financing the company’s expansion.

A Manheim company that rents tents and accessories for weddings and other events has moved and expanded in a $620,000 project.

Hess Tent Rental has acquired and renovated a former machine shop at 107 N. Penryn Road. The business previously was on a family farm in the Manheim area.

The project was announced Tuesday by Lancaster-based EDC Finance, a nonprofit that helps businesses obtain state and federal funding.
Founded in 2008 by Michael Hess, the business rents tents and accessories such as tables, chairs, linens, lights, dance floors, heaters, fans, grills, generators, curtains and restrooms.

“He’s had nice growth fueled by the quality of his tents and accessories, his attention to detail and the coordinated approach he offers his customers,” said Randy Johnston, EDC Finance loan officer.

With the purchase of the 1.08-acre property and its 11,500-square-foot building, Hess has a location that offers more space and better access for customers, said Johnston.

Financing for the venture included a U.S. Small Business Administration 504 program loan of $248,000 and a loan from Metro Bank (now First National Bank) of $310,000, he said.

Hess could not be immediately reached for comment.
